In the summer of 2006, I bought a set of Technics 1200mk2s turntables and 3 crates of House records from a drug addict that despirately needed money. It was a great time to learn DJing because my current band was on the fritz due to our drummer's day job taking over his life. I mixed and mixed in my small Minneapolis uptown apartment working on keeping the groove dancy and fun. Messing around in the apartment helped me narrow down what electronic style I liked the best and helped me with beat matching confidence. The entire year of 2006, I had been a spectator at an event called Dig Deep located at First Avenue hosted by 2 of Minneapolis' House godfathers, Bryan Gerrard and David Drone. I went religiously every Saturday night and danced up a storm to their amazing mixing and track selection. Some nights definitely reached a spiritual level with the music, the gathering of people, and the dancing. By Halloween 2006, I was kicked out of my apartment for having friends over, partying, and spinning/jamming late into the night. Friends of my parents let us move into their 70's Austin Powers pad all winter while they were living in Florida all winter. This is where things really took off. I set up my gear and mixed every night while my wife hula hooped. There was no worries about being loud or how late I could spin so I put some serious hours in on the decks with friends coming in and out all the time. September 23rd, 2007 I was tricked into opening for Dig Deep at the First Ave. My wife got out of the car as we were going to our ritual Saturday night spot and she grabbed my record bag and said to me "You are opening for Bryan and Dave tonight!" I was shocked but not all that nervous because I had a half a bottle of Patron in me thanks to Matt and Bethany. I walked in and all my friends were there waiting for me to step up and rock it. I threw down a passionate set of my favorite tracks and it went suprisingly well. From then on, people asked me to guest DJ around town and eventually I landed a Saturday night residency at the most modern club in downtown Minneapolis, 414 Soundbar. That is where I am today.
