Matt Damon
Essex, UK

I guess you'd say my style is more on the progressive, darker side of breaks. My influences coming from the likes of Hybrid,General Midi/Starecase,Way Out West,Luke Chable,Lostep,His Boy Elroy and Wrecked Angle.
My love of music started at school in the 80's.I commandeered my dads old record player and made my own mix tapes using Hip Hop samples.
I remember watching Dave Dorrell and C J Mackintosh on a programme called The Roxy (also in the 80's).They were using four 1200's and two mixers.I recorded it on video and must of worn the tape out watching it.I was fascinated and instantly knew that this is what i wanted to do.
I got into the Hardcore scene in 1991 where i fell in love with the breakbeat sound.Got my first decks in 1992 and played Hardcore until 1995.
Jack Smooth soon became my hero during this time, especially those 1993 tunes (Basement Records,Sound Entity,Smooth But Hazzardous,Fast Floor Productions, Ruff With The Smooth,Jack N Phil ...the list goes on!)
Those beats, dark synths and chords to give you goosebumps really shaped the scene...and that sound is what influences my style today.
After 1995 my music style changed direction and i started playing pumping house and trance.I then had the privilege of becoming resident at Rapture (Essex Uni,Colchester)where our guests included Tall Paul,Tony De Vit,Steve Lee,Rachel Auburn and Darren Pearce(JDS).
Resident DJ'S were on a rota, you played the first two hours one gig and the last hour the next gig. It rocked, always selling out the 1000 capacity. After the year 2000 (and a short break) we came back, new sound, new venue...playing breaks.
I loved the feel of breaks, especially the more darker, sinister side and knew that this was the style for me.
I was playing alongside guests such as the Stanton Warriors,Evil Nine,Meat Katie,Phil K,Lee Coombs,Krafty Kuts and the ultimate highlight for me was warming up for Hybrid.Top Blokes and masters at what they do.
I use vinyl & cd's.I'm not into mixing with software programs, maybe i'll try it one day.I still like the hands on approach and the skill you need, especially mixing with vinyl.
Still buying the choons, doing the occasional mix and living a chilled life by the sea.
More mixes coming soon.
