Kidd-XL was born "Ryan Jervis" on the 5th of June, 1978.
Until the age of 16, Hip-Hop, R&B, Rock, and Country were the only styles of music that he knew existed. Little did he know that during the summer before his senior year, he would be exposed to, not only a new style of music, but a whole new world, one that would change his life forever.
That summer a friend took Ryan to the first of many underground parties. At the party, Ryan witnessed sounds he had never heard before and met people who he would consider friends by the time he left the party. His interest in electronic music, or shall i say addiction to, was the cause for not only a blurry four years of parties and afterhours, but also the motivation to become a dj later down the road.
In the winter of 2002, Ryan, with the help of Aaron Miller, A.K.A - Dj Aus-10, Ryan played his first record and started the transformation into Kidd-XL.
Growing up with musicians in his family, and being one himself, made learning the fundamentals of spinning records easy to understand. The natural musical talent and knowledge not only was a blessing, but would become a burden down the road to becoming a Dj.
One year after he started spinning, the unknown burden had finally became the problem it always was. Kidd could beat match, and even layer his tracks, the problem was that sometimes his layers would either be perfect the first time he dropped them in, or would take him hours, even sometimes days to lock. The problem was they he couldn't read music and even knew what counting beats was, or how to do it.
With help from some fellow Djs, he learned how read music and count beats. Along the way he also learned how to match keys by ear, and is actually still working on that today.
In spite of all the growing pains, frustrations, and lack of support from those close to him, Kidd's passion for his music has never deminished.
Now after almost three years, his skills on the decks, and his high nrg vibe are becoming a great tool in getting not only bookings, but the playing times that actually fall when there are people at the party.
As for the future of Kidd-XL, let's just say, keep your ears open and your feet on the dance floor, cause it just might be XL on Next.
