Chris Grim began his music career at the young age of 6, when his mother Trissa put a violin in his hands. Ever since then it’s been nothing but song after song for Chris. He started DJ’ng in 1983 So far back that Chris was splicing tapes making mixes before he even got himself 2 turntables and a mixer. It was 1984 when he finally did and they were belt drive fischers and a 2 channel radio shack mixer. “One of My oldest and Best friends Chris Galvin (DJ Helix) and I would spend days at a time going head too head mixing our brains out; and driving our parents crazy in the process.” Long time friend DJ Helix (Chris Galvin) CEO F4Music and Grim started playing parties around their local town in Orange County, and by the time Chris was 16 they were spinning their local dance clubs “Nightshift” and “Jag”. “It’s funny because this was all pre-house days. We didn’t have much as far as “trippy” music was concerned so we would create it in the mix. I can remember doing ridiculous mixes like dropping a Sioux Z track in with Egyptian Lover Or The Cure with Freestyle. What ever I could come up with to break up the monotony of the ‘mixes’ everyone else was doing.” Chris Galvin (Dj Helix) Says of Chris Grims’ mixing? “I would always laugh at Grimmy because he used to have these huge-arse, black, belt-driven turntables -- probably the ugliest turntables I’ve ever laid my eyes on... I don’t know how anybody could mix with belt-drive turntables, but he always would pull of these crazy ‘Cameron Paul Mega Mixes’ without a hitch I guess that brings meaning to the saying: “it's not always about having the best gear.” Chris turned 18 and in 1989 soon began feeling restless again so he picked up the bass and joined a Progressive Speed Metal Band by the name of “Final Judgement” a three piece band that toured along side heavy hitters such as Sepultura, Obituary and Entombed. All the while moonlighting as a house DJ with Helix. “Haha I would show up at the “Pleasure dome” (Hollywood Ca.) after a Judgement gig with hair down too my ass, bell-bottom jeans and a denim Metallica jacket on. Back then the Club kids were wild, candy cane striped knee-highs, clumpy shoes, the works. Then I come barreling through the dance floor with a milk crate full of records screaming ‘I NEED BEER!!’ I had a blast. By the age of 20 Chris had quit the band turned his records over to Helix and spun scattered parties here and there for friends. He began a Film Editing career and has been in Post Production for the past 16 years. And 10 years ago began playing a new instrument, The Computer. “I’ve worked in Post Production for 16 years now so I know what it’s like to start with shit and end up with Gold. Now with Non-linear editing and all the different audio software products out there, The Sky is the Limit.” Chris has spent the past 10 years researching and creating. He has built a library of original pieces stemming from dark progressive house to poppy trance. Chris Grim has collaborated with some of Dance music’s finest Dj’s, Producers and Engineers such as Grant Plant, Pete Bones Naughty G (Geataan Schurrer) to name a few. In the past year Chris has done 2 Exclusive mixes for Frisky Radio, both of which are over 1 hour of all of his own original Music. “I really Don’t like mixing my own stuff, but I think it’s the Future of the Dj. It’s very difficult to step away from your own music and try to do a mix with out being super super sensitive to the intricacies of the tracks. Not to mention my music seems to span all different Genres so it’s very difficult to keep some sort of continuity, but I think I’m getting used to it.” When asked what his goal in all this is he responds, “ Well, all my life I’ve created music, it’s what I’ve always been good at. I truly love to see people enjoy what I enjoy creating. It’s a win, win situation.”
